From earthy tones to natural materials, our Design Director, Sarah Luck, takes a closer look at the trends that will make it big in 2023.
A new year means fresh ideas for yacht interiors. While some trends are certainly not going anywhere, there’s plenty of new inspiration too.
A Return to Nature
Whether it’s through flowing furniture, natural materials & textures or soft accessories, we’re bringing the outside in in 2023.
When you think about natural interior design, you wouldn’t instantly think of yachts, however there are plenty of ways to incorporate organic elements within a scheme to create a calm, harmonious environment on board.
This can be achieved through printed fabrics & natural wall coverings, and flowing organic forms through bespoke furniture design.
Natural stone countertops, splash backs and coffee tables are on the rise within residential interiors. We work with our stone partners to create solid stone pieces that are actually filled with an aluminium honeycomb inner, making them much lighter weight and suitable for yacht interiors.
Earth Tones
Following on from the natural elements, earth tones are key to modernising your space in 2023. I love using a fresh palette of off-whites with splashes of taupe, copper browns and beiges to subtly brighten and soften any part of your boat.
At SETAG, we are constantly developing ways to transform the outdated yacht interiors we work on. One of the most effective ways we’ve found is to either spray timber structures or leather wrap them in beautiful shades of taupe, which instantly freshens Saloons, Galleys & Cabins alike.
Sustainable Design
Within the world of sustainable design, we as designers no longer have to compromise on luxury or quality, due to the ever-increasing choice of innovative brands.
One of my favourites is Kirkby Design from the Romo group. They conducted a study into recycled products and sustainable materials which informed the creation of four innovative collections that reduce the impact on the environment. These incredible materials are constructed from Tencel Lyocell, Recycled Wool, Recycled Acrylic and 100% Recycled Polyester, which is sourced from recycled plastic bottles.
This collection of beautiful textiles is brilliant for everything from upholstery to soft furnishings and certainly still maintains a stunning, luxurious feel. Complete with an earth tone colour palette, you can be sure to see a rise in the inclusion of eco-friendly fabrics in the upcoming year.
READ MOREContrast Upholstery
Whether it’s a contrast in colour, texture or stitch detailing, this multi-fabric method to upholstery is certainly making a splash in the marine industry.
With sweeping designs and added practical elements, like enhancing areas of high traffic for durability, we are experiencing high demand for this multifunctional technique.
Excitingly, these designs result in a totally unique design suited specifically for each yacht, the highest level of bespoke upholstery.
A Return to Glamour
Taking it back to the roaring 1920’s, Art Deco is most certainly making a scene within the world of design. A century on, its unique shapes & stylish geometric patterns can elevate any interior to a new height of luxury.
I’m seeing an increased desire for beautifully printed textures and wall coverings, which can be utilised as incredible features that playfully draw your eye into and around a space.
Simple fluted stitch detailing to upholstery is also an elegant way of incorporating a sophisticated deco mood, whilst light fixtures are a simple way of subtly sending your space back to the 20’s.
2023 is the year for soft, modern interiors that evoke nature, peace and comfort. Handmade, bespoke pieces with sustainable credentials will be high in demand too. Combined, this will create interiors which promote wellbeing and uncompromising elegance.
